The August morning rain has subsided. I open the sliding glass door and inhale the earthy scent of petrichor. The sky is overcast. Temperature is a brisk 57F degrees. It will be a cool day at the market. Our target of the day: plums and Albion strawberries for jam. Only a few pounds now, as we're short on pantry storage space from previous canning this summer (apricots, figs, marionberries). We'll also pick up some fresh veggies and herbs for the coming day's meals.
Open the phone, tickle the coffee app for hot beverage and a hit of protein to go and we're off and cruising into Portland. Traffic is a bit thick on Highway 26 East. Oh, the PoPo pulled over a sports car. Ha ha! He's too occupied to bug us. We zip by over the speed limit. 😛
Off on SW Market Street then a quick right onto SW Park Avenue. We engage
’s amazing Parking Karma™. The Universe delivers the perfect spot on SW 10th Ave, one block away from the main entrance. Yay! We grab two reusable grocery bags from the trunk and hike the short distance to the market.I'm always enthralled with the beauty of the fresh fruits, vegetables, breads and pastries the vendors carefully and lovingly exhibit. The displays become works of art themselves! Oh my, the Mexican bakery is here and now I NEED a concha: a bun of yeasty goodness with a striped sugary topping that crumbles on each bite. Yum!
Speaking of art, we encountered a seven foot sculpture of cat on display for a local charity. Their was a QR code on the base you scan with your phone and are immediately taken to their donation site. High-tech expertly used to benefit a worthy community organization.
Here are a few pix from today. Enjoy!
Beautiful photos of fresh Whole Foods Paul! Fall is just around the corner! It sounds like your canning efforts have been well worth the effort! 🤗💖✨
Ooo, so jealous of all that fresh, colorful produce right in front of your eyes and nose. At least we readers can enjoy vicariously through your images. 💜
